Subject and grade(s) taught: Library Media Specialist
How long have you been teaching?
This is my twenty-fourth year in education, having taught seventh grade English language arts, worked at the NC Department of Public Instruction, and served as a middle school library media specialist. I’ve been at East Cary for the ten years that it’s been a year-round middle school.
Who or what influenced you to become a teacher?
My mom was a high school English teacher. As a senior in high school, I dropped physics in order to be a student library assistant. I was destined to end up in the library!
How do you spend your track outs?
Trying to catch up on my hobbies!
What are your hobbies?
Reading, crossword and logic puzzles, scrapbooking, and cooking.
What’s the most rewarding part of being a teacher?
Watching students get excited when they find the right book that engages them and gets them into reading.
If I weren’t a teacher I’d be…
I would be an events planner, a caterer, or a food critic.
